【Aims】The aim of our study was to research backgrounds of infertile women with sperm immobilizing antibodies (SIA) in their sera and to evaluate the clinical significance of female SIA.
【Methods】 From January 2011 to September 2014, the sperm immobilizing antibodies were tested in the sera of 5296 infertility women by sperm immobilization test (SIT). After the 59 positive sperm immobilizing antibodies women were divided into two groups according to the SIV titers (under 20 and over 95), their backgrounds and reproductive outcomes were analyzed.
【Results】 The prevalence of infertility due to having SIA was 1.11%. Comparing the 25 patients with low SIV titers and the 34 patients with high SIV titers, average ages were 35.0 years old and 33.7 years old, average duration of infertility was 25.6 months and 26.0 months, and 12 patients (48.0%) and 8 patients (23.5%) were secondary infertility. Among 54 patients treated in our clinic, 19 of 22 patients (86.3%) and 26 of 32 patients (81.2%) were revealed clinical pregnancy; 2 and 2 by intra uterine insemination (IUI), and 17 and 24 by ART. Twenty patients (48.8%) of pregnant patients by ART were treated with IUI therapies previously but without success. The fertilization rate of IVF was 89.4 % and 90.1%.
【Conclusions】 From our study, it was revealed that reproductive outcomes were not different between patients with low and high SIV titers. Although both have a possibility of conceiving by IUI, the success rate is low. Therefore, it is suggested that ART at early cycle is useful for the patients with SIA.
