Purpose: It is known that the probability of having a child with an unbalanced translocation varies depending on the gender of the carrier of the balanced translocation. In the present study, we retrospectively examined whether the gender of the carrier of a balanced translocation affects the outcome of IVF treatment based on medical records.

Methods and Results: Translocation carriers who underwent IVF or embryo transfer at our clinic in 2011 or later were included, and PGT cases were excluded from the pregnancy outcomes. First, we analyzed the culture results of 10 cases (34 cycles) in the female carrier group (W group) and 13 cases (39 cycles) in the male carrier group (M group). The normal fertilization rate was 65.8% (177/269) in group W and 59.4% (126/212) in group M. The blastocyst development rate was 57.6% (99/172) in group W and 53.7% (65/121) in group M. Next, the pregnancy outcomes of 10 patients (36 cycles) in the W group and 13 patients (39 cycles) in the M group were analyzed. The pregnancy rate per transplant was 33.3% (12/36) in group W and 42.9% (12/28) in group M. The miscarriage rate was 75% (9/12) in group W and 75% (9/12) in group M. The production rate per transplant was 5.6% (2/36) in group W and 10.7% (3/28) in group M. The production rate per case was 20.0% (2/10) in group W and The production rate per case was 20.0% (2/10) in the W group and 33.3% (3/9) in the M group.

Conclusion: We found that the gender of the translocation carrier did not affect the culture and pregnancy outcomes.
